TCM herbal formula for early-stage viral and bacterial infections — common cold, influenza, oral herpes, cold sores, fever blisters, sore throat, bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, measles, and chickenpox — broad-spectrum antiviral; antibacterial; antipyretic; expectorant; antitussive; clears wind-heat; eliminates fire and heat toxins from the upper jiao; benefits the throat. Derived from the classic Yin Qiao San (Honeysuckle and Forsythia Powder) with additional herbs for enhanced antibiotic effect and bacterial/viral resistance.

⚠️ Lonicera Complex is designed for wind-heat patterns. If the patient shows wind-cold symptoms — clear nasal discharge, headache, or chills — use Respitrol (Cold) instead. Patients with signs of encephalitis or meningitis (fever, headache, stiff neck, sore throat, vomiting, mental confusion, severe neck pain with taps, inability to lower chin to chest) should be sent to the emergency room immediately.

CLINICAL APPLICATIONS

* Viral infections (early stages): common cold, influenza, measles, oral herpes, cold sores, and fever blisters

* Bacterial infections (early stages): bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, chickenpox

* Throat infections: soreness, swelling, and inflammation of the throat

Background: A healthy person has numerous defense mechanisms that protect against invasion of micro-organisms — natural barriers (skin), non-specific immunity (phagocytic cells), and specific immunity (antibodies). When host defenses are disrupted, micro-organisms may enter and affect various parts of the body. Optimal treatment requires agents to kill the micro-organisms AND preventative agents that restore host defense mechanisms. Lonicera Complex addresses both — clearing the active infection while supporting immunity.

Formula note: Lonicera Complex is derived from classic Yin Qiao San (Honeysuckle and Forsythia Powder), enhanced with additional herbs for two key reasons: (1) the classic formula is more specific for viral infections and many pathogens have developed resistance; (2) multiple herbs in combination have been shown to increase the antibiotic effect more than tenfold and reduce the risk of micro-organisms developing resistance or mutation.
