Arm Support = Arm, Shoulder, Wrist Pain Support
Arm Support™
TCM herbal formula for general musculoskeletal disorders of the arm — shoulders, elbows, and wrists
⚠️ Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing. Contains Dan Shen — may enhance Coumadin (warfarin) effectiveness; do NOT take with anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications without supervision by a licensed healthcare practitioner. Not designed for referred pain caused by acute internal organ problems: left shoulder pain with chest pain/palpitation/shortness of breath may indicate cardiac origin; right shoulder pain may indicate liver or gallbladder origin — rule out during initial evaluation.
CLINICAL APPLICATIONS
* Shoulder: periarthritis of the shoulder, frozen shoulder, capsulitis, rotator cuff tear, rotator cuff tendonitis, bursitis, inflammation and pain of the shoulder, subluxation or dislocation, AC (acromioclavicular) separation
* Elbow: lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), medial epicondylitis (golfer's elbow), olecranon bursitis, tendonitis
* Wrist: carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, sprain and strain
* General pain and discomfort of the arm: tendonitis, bursitis, arthritis, numbness, decreased range of motion, and atrophy
Key herb-level clinical data:
— Yan Hu Suo (Corydalis): strongest analgesic herb — inhibits release of histamine and pro-inflammatory mediators; analgesic potency comparable to morphine with dosage adjustment; used with satisfactory anesthetic effect in 98 of 105 patients (93.4%) who underwent surgery; analgesic effect potentiated significantly with concurrent electro-acupuncture vs electro-acupuncture alone; much safer than morphine — significantly fewer side effects, less risk of tolerance, no evidence of physical dependence even with long-term use; treats both acute and chronic phases of inflammation
— Bai Shao (Paeoniae Alba): anti-inflammatory — treats arthritis by modulating production of pro-inflammatory mediators from macrophage-like synoviocytes; relaxes muscles
— Ge Gen (Puerariae Lobatae): isoflavonoid compounds — significant analgesic and muscle relaxant activities; relieves pain in the upper jiao
— Xi Xian Cao (Siegesbeckiae): analgesic and anti-inflammatory — reduces swelling and inflammation through significant inhibition of nitric oxide, prostaglandin E(2), TNF-α, iNOS, and COX-2 proteins; topical application shows comparable analgesic effect to piroxicam gel and methyl salicylate ointment; cartilage protection — significant increase in proteoglycan, aggrecan, and type II collagen expression in collagenase-induced osteoarthritis (Celebrex showed anti-inflammatory effect but NO cartilage protection)
— Sang Zhi (Mori Ramulus) + Ji Xue Teng (Spatholobi) + Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus): 15 patients with elbow tendonitis — marked success; Gui Zhi also used with good success in 30 patients with arthritis
— Dan Shen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae) + E Zhu (Curcumae) + Yan Hu Suo: activate qi and blood circulation, dispel stagnation, relieve pain
— Jiang Huang (Curcumae Longae) + Luo Shi Teng (Trachelospermi) + Gui Zhi + Sang Zhi + Xi Xian Cao: open channels and collaterals, relieve pain; Gui Zhi and Sang Zhi act as channel-guiding herbs to the upper body and extremities
— Sang Shen (Mori Fructus) + Ji Xue Teng + Wu Jia Pi (Acanthopanacis): tonify yin and blood; strengthen soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments)
— Shan Zha (Crataegi): enters xue (blood) level, moves blood, reduces inflammation and swelling

DOSAGE
Standard: 3 to 4 capsules three times daily as needed. Increase to 6 to 8 capsules every 4–6 hours for severe/excruciating pain in early stages of injury. Reduce back to 3–4 capsules 3x daily as pain subsides. For chronic cases or consolidation: 2 capsules twice daily on an empty stomach. Take on an empty stomach with two tall glasses of warm water for maximum effectiveness.
Note: This formula is designed for pain in the arm from shoulder down to wrist. Neck & Shoulder (AC) and Neck & Shoulder (CR) are formulated for pain in the cervical and shoulder area.
Supplementary formulas: Headache — add Corydalin (AC). Acute neck/shoulder pain or numbness — add Neck & Shoulder (AC). Radiating/tingling arm pain from cervical spondylosis — add Neck & Shoulder (AC). Chronic neck/shoulder pain — add Neck & Shoulder (CR). Acute arm disorder with severe pain — add Herbal ANG. Chronic arm disorder with atrophy and soft tissue tearing — add Flex (MLT). Arthritis/bi zheng due to heat — add Flex (Heat). Arthritis/bi zheng due to cold — add Flex (CD). Muscle/tendon/ligament tightness and spasms — add Flex (SC). Bone spurs and calcific tendonitis — add Flex (SPR). Nerve pain — add Flex (NP). Bone fractures or bruises — add Flex (TMX). Osteoarthritis — add Osteo 8. Severe inflammation — add Astringent Complex.
Diet: Whole grains, seafood, dark green vegetables, and nuts — rich in vitamin B complex (nerve health) and magnesium (muscle relaxation). Adequate calcium and potassium — essential for pain management; deficiency leads to spasms, cramps, and tense muscles.
Lifestyle: Avoid exposing affected areas to cold or drafts — wear adequate clothing to cover arms, shoulders, and neck. Gently exercise affected elbows or wrists as much as possible. Frozen shoulder: exercise the joint frequently in all directions (external/internal rotation, abduction, extension) — prolonged immobilization causes adhesions making treatment very difficult; heat packs are helpful. Hot baths with Ai Ye (Folium Artemisiae Argyi) or Epsom salt — relax tense muscles, invigorate blood flow, draw toxins from tissues; soak 30 minutes with 2–3 tablespoons of Ai Ye powdered extract. Note sleeping position — poor position leads to shoulder and neck pain in the morning. Cold packs for acute injuries (first 24–48 hours of prominent inflammation). Hot packs for chronic injuries (promote blood circulation and healing). Tui-na and acupuncture provide immediate relief; herbs consolidate the effect. Best results with acupuncture, electro-stimulation, and herbs combined.

Arm Support 3 capsules 3x/day. After 9 days: no pain, ROM increased to 100% mobility.
— 65-year-old female (D.S.): Fluctuating discomfort in neck, shoulder, and lower back from desk job; limited ROM; positive rotator muscle palpation; damp-cold bi zheng / fibromyalgia. Herbal ANG + Arm Support. Result: reduced anti-inflammatory and prescription drugs by 70%; pain decreased by 50%. Back Support (CR) added when lower back pain present.
— 62-year-old female (S.C.): Right wrist pain from yoga; high stress and insomnia; qi and blood stagnation in Lung, Pericardium, and Heart channels. Arm Support + Calm ZZZ, 3–4 capsules 3x/day each.
