Kidney Tonic (Yin)™

TCM herbal formula for Kidney yin deficiency with dizziness, vertigo, weakness of the back and knees, night sweats, tinnitus, spermatorrhea, nocturnal emission, dry mouth, and thirst — tonifies Kidney yin; replenishes marrow and jing (essence); treats sexual dysfunction, infertility, and sensory and nerve disorders; adaptogenic and antiaging

⚠️ Contraindicated in cases of excess, stagnation, fire, inflammation, or active infection. Use with caution in patients with weak digestion — yin tonic herbs may cause bloating and stagnation in the middle jiao. Not recommended for prolonged use (more than 2–3 months) — once desired effect is achieved, switch to a milder yin tonic such as Nourish or Nourish (Fluids) to consolidate results.

CLINICAL APPLICATIONS

* Kidney yin deficiency with depletion of marrow and jing (essence)

* Dizziness, vertigo, weakness of the knees, soreness of the lower back, night and/or spontaneous sweating, spermatorrhea and/or nocturnal emission, tinnitus, dribbling of urine, thirst, dry mouth and throat, mirror-like tongue with little coating

* Sexual dysfunction: spermatorrhea and nocturnal emission

* Infertility due to premature ovarian failure; amenorrhea; uterine bleeding

* Sensory and nerve disorders: multiple neuritis, polyneuritis

Background: In TCM, the Kidney governs reproduction, growth, development, and the production of marrow. Kidney yin provides the fundamental substance for normal growth and functioning of the body. A decline in Kidney yin leads to deficiency heat rising upward, causing dizziness, tinnitus, night sweats, dry mouth, and thirst. Deficiency of the lower body causes weak knees and sore back. Deficiency fire causes jing (essence) to leak out, resulting in spermatorrhea and nocturnal emission. In Western medicine, these conditions correspond to genitourinary disorders including infertility, sexual dysfunction, and hormonal imbalances — conditions where laboratory tests are often normal yet patients continue to deteriorate without targeted treatment.

Key herb-level clinical data:

Shan Zhu Yu (Fructus Corni): astringes yin and body fluids to prevent further depletion; substantial stimulatory effect on sperm motility — from 25.8 ± 7.7% to 42.8 ± 10.3%; clinically: 33 of 42 men successfully conceived children within approximately 2 months; all 33 confirmed at 2-year follow-up

Gou Qi Zi (Fructus Lycii): tonifies jing (essence); improves vision; relieves dizziness

Gui Ban Jiao (Gelatinum Plastrum Testudinis): strong animal substance — nourishes Kidney yin; tonifies jing (essence)
