Overview
Flex (Heat) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula traditionally used as complementary dietary support for occasional joint discomfort with heat signs — localized redness, warmth, and swelling — including discomfort associated with hot-type arthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this pattern is traditionally associated with wind-damp-heat painful obstruction (re bi). Flex (Heat) is designed to help expel wind and heat and clear damp-heat as a complementary traditional support alongside your physician's care.
⚠️ Important: Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing. Contains Dang Gui Wei, which invigorates blood circulation — those on anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy such as warfarin should use with caution or avoid this formula. Do not use if joint pain worsens with cold and rainy weather — use Flex (CD) instead. Do not use heat packs for joint pain due to heat — use ice packs instead. Internal hemorrhage should be ruled out before use in patients with head injuries.
Clinical Applications & Benefits
Flex (Heat) is traditionally used to help support:
- Occasional joint discomfort with heat signs — localized redness, warmth, and swelling
- Natural joint mobility and fluid balance as part of a broader wellness routine
- Soothing localized heat patterns traditionally associated with hot-type arthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia
Persistent or severe joint discomfort requires professional medical oversight. Anyone with rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune condition, or persistent joint symptoms should be under the care of a physician for diagnosis and treatment planning. This formula is a complementary support, not a substitute for that care.

Dosage & Directions
Standard dosage: 3–4 capsules three times daily on an empty stomach with warm water. For more pronounced discomfort, up to 5–6 capsules every 4–6 hours as needed.
Supplementary formulas: For additional pain relief, this formula is traditionally paired with Herbal ANG. For severe inflammation, it is traditionally paired with Astringent Complex. For specialized metabolic fluid clearance and localized heat patterns, Flex (GT) is traditionally used instead. For sports injuries with pain, inflammation, and swelling in the early stages, it is traditionally paired with Flex (TMX).
Holistic Nutrition & Lifestyle
Nutrition: Foods high in sulfur, such as asparagus and garlic, are traditionally encouraged. Fresh pineapple is traditionally encouraged for its natural bromelain content. Cooling foods such as yam, radishes, and melons are traditionally encouraged, while spicy foods, caffeine, citrus, and red meat are traditionally reduced.
Lifestyle: Using ice packs rather than heat packs is traditionally recommended for joint discomfort with heat signs. For those managing excess weight, gradual weight loss is traditionally recommended to ease pressure on joints.

"A woman with burning low back pain on top of chronic discomfort, consistent with a heat pattern in the lower jiao, took Flex (Heat) and reported the burning sensation easing, using the formula intermittently when it returned."
"A woman with joint pain, heat, and swelling with limited range of motion, consistent with a wind-damp-heat pattern with underlying Kidney yin deficiency, worked with her physician while combining Flex (Heat) with a supplementary formula and reported her joint comfort improved and was sustained over time."
