Overview
Flex (CD) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula traditionally used as complementary support for occasional joint discomfort with cold signs — stiffness that tends to worsen in cold, damp weather and ease with warmth. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this pattern is traditionally associated with cold-damp painful obstruction (bi zheng) with underlying Kidney and Liver deficiency. Flex (CD) is designed to help warm the channels, expel wind-cold-damp, and tonify Kidney yin and yang as a complementary traditional support alongside your physician's care.
⚠️ Important: Do not use if joint pain presents with heat signs — redness, burning, or inflammation that worsens with heat — use Flex (Heat) instead. Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing. Contains Dang Gui Wei, which invigorates blood circulation — those on anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy such as warfarin should use with caution or avoid this formula. Patients with a pacemaker, taking antiarrhythmic drugs, or taking cardiac glycosides such as digoxin, or with pre-existing cardiovascular conditions, should not take this formula — two of its herbs may affect heart rhythm. Discontinue and consult your physician if nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, or irritability occur.
Clinical Applications & Benefits
Flex (CD) is traditionally used to help support:
- Occasional joint stiffness and lower back tightness that tends to flare during seasonal cold shifts
- Natural mobility and comfort in the lower back and knees as part of a broader wellness routine
- General aches with cold manifestations, traditionally associated with cold-type arthritis, joint degeneration, and fibromyalgia
Persistent or worsening joint stiffness should be evaluated by a healthcare professional. Anyone with arthritis, fibromyalgia, or persistent joint symptoms should be under the care of a physician for diagnosis and treatment planning. This formula is a complementary support, not a substitute for that care.

Dosage & Directions
Standard dosage: 3–4 capsules three times daily with warm water. For severe pain, up to 6 capsules every 6 hours as needed.
Clinical notes: Avoid exposure to rain, wind, and cold weather whenever possible. Wear warm clothing and keep joints covered. Use heat pads, not ice packs, for joint pain due to coldness.
Supplementary formulas: For neck and shoulder pain, this formula is traditionally paired with Neck & Shoulder (CR). For lower back pain, it is traditionally paired with Back Support (CR). For knee pain, it is traditionally paired with Knee & Ankle (CR). For bone density support, it is traditionally paired with Osteo 8. For enhanced pain relief, it is traditionally paired with Herbal ANG. For joint patterns with localized warmth, redness, or heat manifestations, use Flex (Heat) instead.
Holistic Nutrition & Lifestyle
Nutrition: Foods high in sulfur, such as asparagus, eggs, and garlic, are traditionally encouraged for bone, tendon, and connective tissue support. Fresh pineapple is traditionally encouraged for its natural bromelain content. Warming foods such as ginger, garlic, and green onions are traditionally encouraged, while cold beverages, raw foods, and dairy are traditionally reduced.
Lifestyle: Gradual weight loss is traditionally recommended for those managing excess weight, to ease pressure on joints. Gentle exercise is traditionally recommended, while activities that expose affected joints to cold and dampness, such as swimming, are traditionally avoided.
Case Studies
The following reflect individual practitioner experiences and traditional use; results vary and are not guarantees of outcome for any individual.
"A woman who felt cold constantly and had widespread body stiffness, consistent with a Spleen qi deficiency with damp and Kidney yin/yang deficiency pattern, took Flex (CD) long-term with nutritional guidance and reported no longer feeling cold, with less overall stiffness."
"An older man with chronic back and leg tightness triggered by prolonged sitting in cold weather, consistent with a cold-damp bi zheng pattern with Kidney qi deficiency, combined Flex (CD) with acupuncture and reported feeling much better, resuming an active travel lifestyle."
"A woman with hand, foot, and knee stiffness that worsened in cold, rainy weather, consistent with a cold-damp obstruction pattern, combined Flex (CD) with a supplementary bone-support formula and reported her joints and tendons became much less stiff within about a week, with symptoms returning when the herbs were stopped."
"An older woman with chronic low back, hip, and knee stiffness aggravated by activity, consistent with Kidney and Liver yin deficiency with qi and blood stagnation, combined Flex (CD) with acupuncture and reported a noticeable improvement in comfort."
"A woman with sciatica-related tightness that was cold to the touch and worse in the evening, consistent with a wind-damp bi zheng pattern with Kidney yang deficiency, took Flex (CD) and reported comfort became manageable enough to return to regular exercise after a few months."
