Overview

Dermatrol (Dry) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula traditionally used to help support skin comfort and healthy moisture balance during red, dry, flaky, or scaly skin. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is traditionally associated with wind, heat, and dryness on the surface paired with dampness underneath, along with an underlying blood deficiency. This traditional framework is not a medical diagnosis, and persistent or unexplained skin changes should be evaluated by a physician, since certain internal conditions can also show up as skin changes and are worth ruling out.

⚠️ Important: This formula is a complement to, not a substitute for, medical care. See the Safety & Contraindications section below for full precautions before use.

Clinical Applications & Benefits

Dermatrol (Dry) is traditionally used to help support:

  • Skin comfort during red, dry, flaky, or scaly skin
  • General comfort during itching, irritation, or allergic-type skin reactions
  • Overall skin moisture balance and resilience
  • Skin wellness alongside proper diagnosis of any underlying condition

People managing ongoing dry, irritated skin traditionally turn to formulas like this one for ongoing support, always alongside proper medical evaluation for persistent or unexplained changes.

Key Herbs (TCM Data)

— Ku Shen (Sophora Flavescens), Chan Tui (Cicada Molting), and Jing Jie (Schizonepeta): traditionally used together to help ease itching and skin irritation.

— Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia) and Chai Hu (Bupleurum): traditionally used to help release surface wind and support skin comfort.

— Huang Qin (Scutellaria), Huang Lian (Coptis), and Huang Bo (Phellodendron): traditionally used together to help clear heat and support skin comfort.

— Shu Di Huang and Di Huang (Rehmannia): traditionally used to help nourish yin and blood, which in TCM is thought to help calm wind-related itching.

— Niu Bang Zi (Burdock) and Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena): traditionally used to help clear heat and moisten dryness.

— Fu Ling (Poria), Cang Zhu (Atractylodes), and Yi Yi Ren (Coix): traditionally used to strengthen the Spleen and help drain dampness.

— Bai Shao (White Peony) and Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis): traditionally used to nourish blood.

— Gan Cao (Licorice): traditionally used to harmonize the formula.

Safety & Contraindications

  1. Contraindicated in those with cold or deficiency-cold signs — this is a heat-clearing formula.
  2. Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing.
  3. Not for long-term use — do not take continuously for more than two months.
  4. Contains Dang Gui — those on anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy such as warfarin should use with caution or avoid this formula.
  5. Persistent or unexplained skin changes should be evaluated by a physician, as certain underlying conditions (thyroid imbalance, diabetes, kidney function issues, iron deficiency) can present as skin changes and are worth ruling out.

Dosage & Directions

Standard dosage: 3–4 capsules three times daily. During a flare, this may be increased to 6–8 capsules three times daily. Do not take continuously for more than two months.

Supplementary formulas: For severe itching, this formula is traditionally paired with Silerex. For excess heat, it is traditionally paired with Gardenia Complex. For yin deficiency and menopause-related dryness, it is traditionally paired with Nourish. For general dryness, it is traditionally paired with Nourish (Fluids). For stress-related itching, it is traditionally paired with Calm.

Holistic Nutrition & Lifestyle

Nutrition: In TCM, skin health is traditionally linked to Spleen health. Dairy, shellfish, sugar, fatty meats, and fried or greasy foods are traditionally discouraged, while a balanced diet with plenty of vegetables is traditionally encouraged. Any food that causes discomfort or an allergic reaction should be avoided.

Lifestyle: Consistent, adequate sleep is traditionally recommended to help support the body's natural restorative processes. Avoiding scratching, bathing with cool or lukewarm water and mild soap, and avoiding tight or irritating clothing are traditionally recommended.
