Overview

Nourish is a traditional Chinese herbal formula based on the classical Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia), traditionally used to help ease hot flashes, night sweats, and body temperature fluctuation associated with menopause. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, these patterns are traditionally associated with Kidney yin deficiency and deficiency heat, which is also traditionally linked to dry eyes, tinnitus, and general dryness. This traditional framework is not a medical diagnosis, and persistent or severe symptoms involving the eyes, ears, kidneys, liver, or blood sugar may require medical evaluation.

⚠️ Not intended for yang deficiency with intolerance of cold or cold hands and feet; consider Kidney Tonic (Yang) instead in that case. Reducing stress, smoking, and secondhand smoke exposure is traditionally recommended, as these are traditionally believed to dry yin and body fluids.

Clinical Applications & Benefits

Nourish is traditionally used to help support:

  • Comfort during hot flashes, night sweats, and temperature fluctuation associated with menopause
  • Healthy eye moisture and general visual comfort
  • Comfort during tinnitus and general ear health
  • Healthy skin moisture and elasticity

People supporting healthy aging and hormonal balance traditionally use formulas like this one as part of a broader, patient approach.

Key Herbs (TCM Data)

— Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia): the chief herb, traditionally used to tonify Kidney yin and essence.

— Shan Zhu Yu (Cornus Fruit): traditionally used to nourish the Liver and help retain Kidney essence.

— Shan Yao (Chinese Yam): traditionally used to tonify the Spleen and stabilize Kidney essence.

— Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome) and Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Bark): traditionally used to clear deficiency heat.

— Fu Ling (Poria): traditionally used to support the Spleen and dissolve dampness.

— Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena Rhizome) and Huang Bo (Phellodendron Bark): traditionally used to sedate deficiency fire.

— Gou Qi Zi (Goji Berry) and Ju Hua (Chrysanthemum Flower): traditionally used to benefit the eyes and nourish Liver and Kidney yin.

Safety & Contraindications

  1. Not intended for yang deficiency with intolerance of cold or cold hands and feet.
  2. Reducing stress, smoking, and secondhand smoke exposure is traditionally recommended.
  3. If you are managing a chronic medical condition affecting the kidneys, liver, eyes, ears, or blood sugar, use this formula only alongside appropriate medical care.
  4. Traditional TCM patterns and actions described here are not a diagnosis and are not a substitute for medical care.

Dosage & Directions

Standard dosage: 3–4 capsules three times daily on an empty stomach with warm water.

Supplementary formulas: For menopause with more pronounced heat and irritability, this formula is traditionally paired with Balance (Heat). For vaginal dryness, it is traditionally paired with Balance Spring. For visual comfort, it is traditionally paired with Lycium Support.

Holistic Nutrition & Lifestyle

Nutrition: A variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, high-fiber whole grains, and foods that traditionally nourish yin and moisten dryness — such as yam, radishes, cucumbers, and beets — are traditionally recommended. Reducing processed foods, alcohol, and stimulating or spicy foods is also traditionally encouraged.

Lifestyle: Managing stress and avoiding smoking or excessive stimulation are traditionally recommended to help preserve yin and body fluids over time.

Case Studies

The following reflect individual practitioner experiences and traditional use; results vary and are not guarantees of outcome for any individual.

"J.M., a 54-year-old woman, experienced hot flashes that were especially disruptive at night, consistent with a Kidney yin deficiency pattern. After combining Nourish with Balance (Heat), she reported shorter hot flashes and more restful sleep within a month."
"J.C., a 57-year-old woman, experienced nervousness, disrupted sleep, and night sweats, consistent with a Kidney yin deficiency with heat pattern. After several months on Nourish alongside other supportive formulas, she reported improved sleep and a calmer, more balanced mood."
"L.C., a 50-year-old woman, experienced tinnitus and lower back discomfort, consistent with Liver and Kidney yin deficiency. After two months combining Nourish with another supportive formula, she reported feeling better overall."
