Overview

Symmetry is a traditional Chinese herbal formula based on the classic Qian Zheng San (Lead to Symmetry Powder), traditionally used to help support facial channel harmony and general facial tissue comfort, including occasional jaw tension and nerve-related sensitivity. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, these patterns are traditionally associated with wind attacking the channels and collaterals of the face, blocking the healthy circulation of qi and blood. Any new or unexplained facial symptom is a matter for prompt medical evaluation — this formula is traditionally used as a complementary support alongside professional care, not a substitute for it.

⚠️ Important: This is a strong, potent formula containing herbs considered slightly toxic in TCM. Dosage should be guided by a qualified practitioner according to age, body weight, and severity. Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing. Use with extreme caution in pediatric and geriatric patients, and only under practitioner guidance. Contains Dang Gui — those on anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy such as warfarin should use with caution or avoid this formula.

Clinical Applications & Benefits

Symmetry is traditionally used to help support:

  • Facial channel harmony and general tissue comfort (seek prompt medical evaluation for any new facial symptom)
  • Jaw and TMJ tension and comfort
  • Nerve-related facial sensitivity and comfort
  • Headache and migraine traditionally associated with wind, phlegm, and blood stagnation patterns
  • General recovery support after a neurological event, alongside medical care

Any new or unexplained facial symptom — including drooping, weakness, or numbness — should always be evaluated by a medical professional right away to rule out serious causes before considering any herbal support.

Key Herbs (TCM Data)

— Bai Fu Zi (Typhonium Rhizome), Jiang Can (Stiff Silkworm), and Quan Xie (Scorpion): the three principal herbs of this formula, traditionally used together to dispel wind and support healthy nerve function in the face.

— Wu Gong (Centipede): traditionally used alongside the principal herbs to dispel interior wind.

— Yan Hu Suo (Corydalis): traditionally used to help ease pain of various origins.

— Bai Zhi (Angelica Dahurica): traditionally used to help ease headache and support healthy circulation.

— Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis): traditionally used to tonify blood in the channels and collaterals.

— Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum): traditionally used to activate qi and blood circulation and help ease headache.

— Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia) and Jing Jie (Schizonepeta): traditionally used to release exterior wind.

— Si Gua Luo (Luffa Vegetable Sponge): traditionally used to help open the peripheral channels and collaterals.

Dosage & Directions

Standard dosage: 4–6 capsules three times daily, ideally beginning as soon as possible under practitioner guidance. If nausea or stomach discomfort occurs, take after meals.

Supplementary formulas: For general nerve support and recovery, this formula is traditionally paired with Neuro Plus. For severe nerve pain, it is traditionally paired with Flex (NP). For acute migraine, it is traditionally paired with Corydalin (AC). For chronic migraine, it is traditionally paired with Corydalin (CR). For stress and tension, it is traditionally paired with Calm.

Holistic Nutrition & Lifestyle

Nutrition: A diverse diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds is traditionally recommended to support overall nerve health. Cold, icy, fried, smoked, or barbecued foods, along with smoking and alcohol, are traditionally discouraged.

Lifestyle: Daily gentle movement, deep breathing, and a positive outlook are traditionally encouraged to support circulation and recovery. Avoiding direct exposure to wind, cold, and drafts is traditionally recommended during recovery.

Case Studies

The following reflect individual practitioner experiences and traditional use; results vary and are not guarantees of outcome for any individual. All cases involved concurrent medical and/or acupuncture care.

"A 33-year-old man experienced sudden one-sided facial weakness after a period of increased stress, consistent with a wind-invasion and Liver qi stagnation pattern, and received prompt medical evaluation and treatment. He added Symmetry to his recovery routine and reported gradual improvement in facial movement over the following days."
"A 44-year-old man experienced one-sided facial weakness and fatigue, with stroke ruled out by his physician, consistent with a wind-phlegm pattern. He combined Symmetry with acupuncture as part of his recovery and reported gradual improvement in facial movement and comfort over about two weeks."
"A 75-year-old man recovering from a minor neurological event, with fatigue and reduced focus, consistent with a Spleen and Kidney yang deficiency pattern, combined Symmetry with a complementary formula as part of his ongoing medical recovery plan and reported improved focus and steadiness over several months."
