Overview
Lycium Support is a traditional Chinese herbal formula, based on the classic Qi Ju Di Huang Wan, traditionally used to help support long-term eye comfort, clarity, and healthy vision as the eyes age. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, gradual changes in vision are traditionally associated with Liver and Kidney yin deficiency, since these organs are believed to nourish and "open into" the eyes. This traditional framework is not a medical diagnosis. Any changes in vision, eye pain, or eye disease should be evaluated and managed by an eye care professional.
⚠️ Not suitable for acute eye disorders from infection, injury, or hemorrhage — this formula is traditionally intended for gradual, longstanding changes in eye comfort, not acute eye emergencies. For oral use only; do not apply into the eyes.
Clinical Applications & Benefits
Lycium Support is traditionally used to help support:
- Comfort and clarity during gradual, age-related changes in vision
- Eye comfort during dryness, tearing, or light sensitivity
- Overall eye wellness as a complement to regular eye care
This formula is traditionally used alongside—never in place of—regular checkups with an eye care professional, especially for any diagnosed eye condition.
Key Herbs (TCM Data)
— Gou Qi Zi (Goji Berry): traditionally regarded as one of the most valued herbs for eye health, traditionally used to nourish the Liver and brighten vision. Goji berry naturally contains zeaxanthin, a compound studied for its role in supporting long-term eye health.
— Ju Hua (Chrysanthemum Flower): traditionally used to clear Liver heat and support eye comfort.
— Mi Meng Hua (Buddleja Flower): traditionally used to support eye comfort and ease dryness.
— Qing Xiang Zi (Celosia Seed): traditionally used to clear Liver heat and support healthy eye comfort.
— Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia), Shan Zhu Yu (Cornus), and Shan Yao (Chinese Yam): the classic Liu Wei Di Huang Wan foundation, traditionally used to nourish Liver and Kidney yin.
— Jue Ming Zi (Cassia Seed) and Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra): traditionally used to support eye brightness and overall vision comfort.
Safety & Contraindications
- Not suitable for acute eye disorders caused by infection, injury, or hemorrhage; use appropriate care for those conditions.
- For oral use only. Do not apply into the eyes.
- Several common medications can affect eye health, including certain antibiotics, antidepressants, antihistamines, appetite suppressants, hormone therapies, and steroids like prednisone. If you take any of these regularly, mention any changes in vision to your prescribing doctor.
- Any changes in vision, eye pain, or diagnosed eye condition should be evaluated and managed by an eye care professional; this formula is a complement to, not a substitute for, professional eye care.
Dosage & Directions
Standard dosage: 3–4 capsules three times daily with a pinch of salt and warm water, increasing to 6–8 capsules three times daily if needed. Gradual, longstanding eye changes are traditionally understood to take time to shift, so consistent use over 1–3 months is traditionally recommended before evaluating results.
Supplementary formulas: For general Liver and Kidney yin deficiency, this formula is traditionally paired with Kidney Tonic (Yin). For eye discomfort alongside excess heat, it is traditionally paired with Gardenia Complex.
Holistic Nutrition & Lifestyle
Nutrition: Beta-carotene-rich foods like carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, and kale, along with fish or fish oil, are traditionally recommended for eye health. Staying well hydrated and reducing spicy food, alcohol, and smoking is also traditionally encouraged.
Lifestyle: Taking regular breaks from screens, protecting the eyes from excessive UV exposure, avoiding prolonged contact lens wear, and not rubbing the eyes are traditionally recommended. A warm compress over closed eyes can help support comfort and circulation.
