Overview
Dermatrol (PS) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula traditionally used to help support skin comfort during severe, persistent skin conditions with scaling, redness, and significant itching, such as psoriasis or severe acne with pus and abscesses. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is traditionally associated with toxic heat, wind, dampness, and blood deficiency affecting the skin. This traditional framework is not a medical diagnosis, and any diagnosed skin condition should be evaluated and managed by a qualified dermatologist or healthcare professional, especially given how persistent and complex these conditions can be.
⚠️ Important: Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing. Those with a weak Spleen and Stomach should take this formula with food. Those with yang deficiency or a tendency toward coldness should use with caution, and this formula is traditionally paired with Kidney Tonic (Yang) in that case. Contains Zhi He Shou Wu — do not use if you have or are at risk for liver conditions. Use with caution if you have yin deficiency, as it may cause hot flashes.
Clinical Applications & Benefits
Dermatrol (PS) is traditionally used to help support:
- Skin comfort during advanced scaling and localized flakiness, with redness and significant itching
- Comfort during severe acne with pus, redness, and inflammation
- General skin comfort during sores, lesions, or blisters
- Overall skin wellness alongside professional dermatological care
People managing persistent, difficult skin conditions traditionally turn to formulas like this one for ongoing support, always alongside dermatological care and close attention to diet and lifestyle triggers.
Key Herbs (TCM Data)
— Bai Xian Pi (Dictamnus) and Ku Shen (Sophora Flavescens): traditionally regarded as foundational herbs for skin comfort, traditionally used to help ease itching and support the skin's response to irritation.
— Da Qing Ye (Isatis Leaf) and Ban Lan Gen (Isatis Root): traditionally used to clear heat and support skin comfort.
— Bai Hua She She Cao (Hedyotis): traditionally used to support the body's own skin-healing processes.
— Wu Shao She (Black-Striped Snake): traditionally used to help ease itching throughout the body.
— Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Bark) and Chi Shao (Red Peony Root): traditionally used to cool the blood and help prevent lesions from spreading.
— Chan Tui (Cicada Molting): traditionally used to help ease itching.
— Jin Yin Hua (Honeysuckle Flower): traditionally used to clear heat and support skin comfort.
— Quan Xie (Scorpion) and Feng Fang (Wasp Nest): potent traditional herbs used in very small amounts to help ease severe, stubborn skin irritation.
— Zhi He Shou Wu (Prepared Fo-Ti): traditionally used to nourish blood, which in TCM is thought to help calm wind-related itching.
— Gan Cao (Licorice): traditionally used to harmonize the formula and support digestive comfort.

Dosage & Directions
Standard dosage: 3–4 capsules three times daily on an empty stomach with warm water. During a flare-up, this may be increased to 8–10 capsules three times daily for about a week, or until symptoms ease, then reduced back to 3–4 capsules daily. This formula is traditionally used in 3-month intervals with evaluation in between, with a maintenance dose of 2 capsules daily once symptoms have stabilized.
Supplementary formulas: For itching from wind-heat, this formula is traditionally paired with Silerex. For acne with redness and pus, it is traditionally paired with Dermatrol (Clear). For dry, flaky skin without significant redness or pus, Dermatrol (Dry) is traditionally used instead. For shingles, Dermatrol (HZ) is traditionally used instead.
Holistic Nutrition & Lifestyle
Nutrition: Diet is traditionally considered very important alongside this formula. Alcohol, spicy food, seafood, and other stimulating or allergy-triggering foods are traditionally avoided completely during use. Fish oil, flax seed oil, and primrose oil are traditionally encouraged, along with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fiber, while fried and processed foods and saturated fats are traditionally discouraged.
Lifestyle: Adequate rest is traditionally recommended to help support overall wellness. Avoiding scratching affected areas is important to help reduce the risk of irritation and scarring. Managing common triggers such as stress, sun exposure, and alcohol is also traditionally encouraged.
