Overview

Dermatrol (Damp) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula traditionally used to help support skin comfort during weeping, oozing, or irritated skin, including areas with excess moisture such as the toes, underarms, or groin. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is traditionally associated with dampness and toxic heat accumulating in the skin, often layered on top of Spleen weakness. This traditional framework is not a medical diagnosis, and persistent, worsening, or unexplained skin changes should always be evaluated by a qualified healthcare professional rather than self-managed.

⚠️ Important: Contraindicated in those with cold or deficiency-cold signs, and during pregnancy and nursing. Not for long-term use — do not take continuously for more than two months. Contains Dang Gui — those on anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy such as warfarin should use with caution or avoid this formula, due to a higher risk of bleeding and bruising. Persistent skin changes can occasionally reflect underlying systemic or hormonal imbalances, so any persistent or unexplained skin changes are worth having evaluated by a physician.

Clinical Applications & Benefits

Dermatrol (Damp) is traditionally used to help support:

  • Skin comfort during weeping, oozing, or visibly irritated skin
  • Comfort in areas prone to excess moisture, such as the toes, underarms, or groin
  • Overall skin balance alongside proper diagnosis of any underlying condition
  • Skin wellness alongside appropriate medical care for open or infected lesions

People managing ongoing weeping or irritated skin traditionally turn to formulas like this one for support, always alongside medical evaluation for open, infected, or worsening lesions.

Key Herbs (TCM Data)

— Che Qian Zi (Plantago Seed), Fu Ling (Poria), and Yi Yi Ren (Coix): traditionally used together to help drain dampness and strengthen the Spleen.

— Bo He (Peppermint), Jing Jie (Schizonepeta), and Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia): traditionally used to help ease itching and support skin comfort.

— Huang Qin (Scutellaria), Huang Lian (Coptis), and Huang Bo (Phellodendron): traditionally used together to help clear heat and support skin comfort.

— Shu Di Huang and Di Huang (Rehmannia): traditionally used to nourish yin and blood.

— Niu Bang Zi (Burdock) and Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena): traditionally used to help clear heat and support skin comfort.

— Gan Cao (Licorice): traditionally used to harmonize the formula.

— Bai Shao (White Peony) and Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis): traditionally used to nourish blood.

— Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum): traditionally used to support healthy qi and blood circulation.

Safety & Contraindications

  1. Contraindicated in those with cold or deficiency-cold signs — this is a heat-clearing, dampness-draining formula.
  2. Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing.
  3. Not for long-term use — do not take continuously for more than two months.
  4. Contains Dang Gui — those on anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy such as warfarin should use with caution or avoid this formula, due to a higher risk of bleeding and bruising.
  5. Persistent or unexplained skin changes should be evaluated by a physician, as certain underlying conditions (thyroid imbalance, diabetes, kidney function issues, iron deficiency) can present as skin changes and are worth ruling out; open, infected, or worsening lesions need prompt medical care.

Dosage & Directions

Standard dosage: 3–4 capsules three times daily. During a flare, this may be increased to 6–8 capsules three times daily. Do not take continuously for more than two months.

Supplementary formulas: For severe itching, this formula is traditionally paired with Silerex. For breakout-prone skin, it is traditionally paired with Dermatrol (Clear). For a weakened immune system or slow-healing lesions, it is traditionally paired with a higher dose of Immune+. For stress-related skin conditions, it is traditionally paired with Calm.

Holistic Nutrition & Lifestyle

Nutrition: In TCM, skin health is traditionally linked to Spleen health. Shellfish, dairy, sugar, fatty meats, and fried or greasy foods are traditionally discouraged, while a balanced diet with plenty of vegetables is traditionally encouraged. Any food that causes discomfort or an allergic reaction should be avoided.

Lifestyle: Consistent, adequate sleep is traditionally recommended to help support the body's natural restorative processes. Avoiding scratching affected areas, keeping skin clean and dry, using mild soap, and avoiding tight or irritating clothing are traditionally recommended.
