Overview

Dissolve (GS) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula developed by a TCM practitioner in China and traditionally used to help support gallbladder comfort, including for gallstones, cholecystitis, and biliary sludge. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, these patterns are traditionally associated with damp-heat accumulation in the Liver and Gallbladder. Dissolve (GS) is designed to help clear this damp-heat, support healthy bile flow, and spread Liver qi.

⚠️ Important: Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing. Regardless of the size and number of stones, surgery may be the necessary treatment for acute onset with severe colic, sudden deterioration in overall health, sudden worsening of cholecystitis or gallstones, or poor results from previous treatment with signs of liver damage — this formula is not a substitute for surgery in those situations. California Prop 65 warning: This product contains Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei). Read and follow directions carefully. Do not use if you have or develop diarrhea, loose stools, or abdominal pain because Da Huang may worsen these conditions and be harmful to your health. Consult your physician if you have frequent diarrhea or if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or have a medical condition.

Clinical Applications & Benefits

Dissolve (GS) is traditionally used to help support:

  • Traditional channel comfort in the right upper quadrant, associated with gallstones (cholelithiasis)
  • Healthy bile flow support, associated with cholecystitis and related gallbladder inflammation
  • Relief of ribcage stagnation, associated with cholestasis, bile stasis, and biliary sludge

Anyone with a diagnosed or suspected gallbladder condition should be under the ongoing care of a physician, with imaging used to monitor stone size and gallbladder health. This formula is a complementary support and is not a substitute for that care. If severe colic, jaundice, high fever, or a sudden change in symptoms occurs, seek immediate medical evaluation.

Key Herbs (TCM Data)

— Jin Qian Cao (Lysimachia) and Hai Jin Sha (Lygodium Spore): traditionally used to help support the body's natural clearance processes in the gallbladder channel.

— Long Dan (Gentiana): traditionally used to enter the Liver and Gallbladder channels and help clear damp-heat.

— Yin Chen (Artemisia Capillaris): a traditional herb for hepatic and gallbladder support; traditionally used to help support healthy bile flow.

— Wei Ling Xian (Clematis): traditionally used to help unblock the channels and support the body's natural clearance processes.

— Li Zhi He (Lychee Seed) and Zhi Qiao (Bitter Orange): traditionally used to help relieve abdominal discomfort from Liver qi constraint and support qi movement.

— Da Huang (Rhubarb Root): traditionally used to help support healthy cholesterol levels and clear damp-heat accumulation. See the California Prop 65 warning above.

Safety & Contraindications

  1. Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing.
  2. Surgery may be the necessary treatment regardless of stone size or number for: acute onset with severe colic, sudden deterioration in overall health, sudden worsening of cholecystitis or gallstones, or poor results from previous treatment with signs of liver damage.
  3. Contains Da Huang — see the California Prop 65 warning above. Do not use if you have or develop diarrhea, loose stools, or abdominal pain.
  4. Never use a high dose in an attempt to flush large stones quickly — this may cause an obstruction requiring emergency surgery. If discomfort, pain, or a sensation of obstruction occurs, reduce the dose and extend the treatment timeline.
  5. Imaging (such as ultrasound) to determine stone size is traditionally recommended before starting this formula, and anyone using it should remain under the ongoing care of a physician.
  6. If herbal support has not been effective after three months, or if acute symptoms occur, consult your physician about surgical or other medical treatment options.

Dosage & Directions

Treatment: 4 capsules three times daily on an empty stomach with warm water. Traditionally taken continuously for a minimum of three months. For multiple or larger stones, this formula is traditionally continued at a comfortable, gradual pace under a physician's supervision.

Post-procedure support: 2 capsules daily for three months, then 1 capsule daily for another six months, traditionally used to help support ongoing gallbladder health.

Clinical notes: This formula is traditionally considered most suitable for mild to moderate cases, under the ongoing supervision of a physician who can monitor stone size and overall health with imaging.

Supplementary formulas: For advanced liver channel vitality and systemic cooling, this formula is traditionally paired with Liver DTX. To help support advanced traditional lipid balance, it is traditionally paired with Cholisma. For significant discomfort, it is traditionally paired with Herbal ANG.

Holistic Nutrition & Lifestyle

Nutrition: During a cholecystitis flare, solid foods are traditionally avoided for a few days in favor of distilled water and fresh juices, with liquid foods reintroduced gradually. Applesauce, yogurt, fresh apples, and beets are traditionally encouraged. Red meat, shellfish, fatty or greasy foods, fried foods, spicy foods, and processed foods are traditionally reduced. Common food sensitivities such as eggs, pork, onion, poultry, dairy, coffee, and citrus are traditionally monitored, as they may contribute to gallbladder inflammation in some individuals.

Lifestyle: During a flare, rest, warmth, and fasting are traditionally recommended. Supporting healthy liver and colon function is traditionally encouraged for long-term gallbladder health. Gentle movement after following any diuretic dietary remedy is traditionally recommended.

Case Studies

The following reflect individual practitioner experiences and traditional use; results vary and are not guarantees of outcome for any individual. All patients remained under appropriate medical or practitioner supervision, with imaging used to monitor their condition.

"A woman with a history of long-standing upper abdominal stagnation and elevated liver enzymes, consistent with Spleen deficiency and damp-heat in the Liver, took Dissolve (GS) for a week under her physician's care and reported easing of her discomfort, with her practitioner noting this as a first step to discuss with her doctor before considering surgery."
"A woman with right upper quadrant sensitivity and longstanding stagnation, who had been advised by her physician to consider surgery, combined Dissolve (GS) with her doctor's ongoing monitoring and reported easing of her discomfort over several days, with continued follow-up imaging through her physician."
"A woman with longstanding right upper quadrant sensitivity, consistent with damp-heat in the Gallbladder, used Dissolve (GS) over several months under practitioner supervision and reported easing of her discomfort."
"An older woman with longstanding upper abdominal stagnation, elevated cholesterol, and shoulder discomfort combined Dissolve (GS) with a complementary cholesterol-support formula and acupuncture under her physician's care and reported improved digestion and eased shoulder discomfort."
