Overview
Respitrol (Deficient) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula traditionally used to help support Lung and Kidney balance during the remission stage of chronic breathing discomfort, including occasional wheezing, shortness of breath with exertion, and a frail cough with sputum. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this pattern is traditionally associated with Lung deficiency and the Kidney's diminished ability to "grasp" qi. This formula is intended for between-flare-up support, not for use during an acute breathing episode.
⚠️ This formula is not intended for acute breathing episodes or as a substitute for prescribed asthma or COPD medication, inhalers, or supplemental oxygen. Do not use during an acute attack — seek urgent medical care for severe or acute breathing difficulty. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before use, especially if you have a diagnosed respiratory condition, and never adjust or discontinue prescribed medication or equipment without your doctor's guidance.
Clinical Applications & Benefits
Respitrol (Deficient) is traditionally used to help support:
- Lung and Kidney balance during the remission stage of chronic breathing discomfort
- Comfort during occasional wheezing or shortness of breath with exertion
- Comfort with a frail, ongoing cough and sputum
- The body's underlying constitution between flare-ups, as part of a broader care plan
People supporting recovery between respiratory flare-ups traditionally use formulas like this one alongside Respitrol (Heat) or Respitrol (Cold) for acute episodes, always under appropriate medical guidance.
Key Herbs (TCM Data)
— Dong Chong Xia Cao (Cordyceps): traditionally used to warm Kidney yang and support the Kidney's natural ability to grasp qi.
— Ku Xing Ren (Bitter Apricot Seed): traditionally used to direct Lung qi downward and help ease cough and wheezing.
— Zi Su Zi (Perilla Seed): traditionally used alongside Ku Xing Ren to help ease cough and wheezing.
— Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra Fruit): traditionally regarded as an astringent herb used to help support healthy Lung qi and respiration.
— Hou Po (Magnolia Bark): traditionally used to regulate qi and help ease chest congestion.
— Dang Gui (Dong Quai): traditionally used to nourish blood and help ease wheezing.
— Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-Fried Licorice Root): traditionally used to harmonize the formula and support comfort.
Safety & Contraindications
- Not intended for use during pregnancy or nursing.
- Contains Dang Gui, which invigorates blood — use with caution or avoid alongside warfarin or other anticoagulant/antiplatelet medication due to a higher risk of bleeding and bruising.
- Not intended for acute breathing episodes; this formula supports the remission stage only. Use Respitrol (Heat) or Respitrol (Cold) for acute patterns, under practitioner guidance.
- Seek urgent medical care for severe or acute breathing difficulty. Never delay emergency care, and never adjust or discontinue prescribed medication, inhalers, or oxygen therapy without your doctor's guidance.
- Consult a qualified healthcare professional before use, especially if you have asthma, COPD, or another diagnosed respiratory condition, or are taking other medications.
Dosage & Directions
Standard dosage: 3–4 capsules three times daily on an empty stomach with warm water. May be used continuously for ongoing maintenance support during remission, under practitioner guidance.
Supplementary formulas: For ongoing maintenance support, this formula is traditionally paired with Cordyceps 3. For persistent coughing, it is traditionally paired with Respitrol (CF). For dry mouth and throat, it is traditionally paired with Nourish (Fluids).
Holistic Nutrition & Lifestyle
Nutrition: Apricot kernels, almonds, walnuts, basil, carrots, pumpkin, winter melon, sunflower seeds, and figs are traditionally recommended. Reducing common allergy-associated foods, cold and raw foods, dairy, sugar, and processed foods is also traditionally recommended, as these are traditionally associated with increased phlegm.
Lifestyle: Maintaining a stable temperature environment, reducing exposure to smoke, dust, mold, and strong fragrances, and using an air purifier are traditionally recommended. Balancing exercise and rest, and following your healthcare provider's respiratory care plan, are also encouraged.
Case Studies
The following reflect individual practitioner experiences and traditional use; results vary and are not guarantees of outcome for any individual, and none of these examples suggest discontinuing prescribed medical care.
"J.D., a 41-year-old woman, experienced seasonal breathing discomfort along with fatigue and stress, consistent with a Lung deficiency pattern. Over three months of inconsistent use of Respitrol (Deficient), she reported clearer breathing and improved energy."
"S.F., a 74-year-old woman, experienced deep traditional lung qi weakness and shallow breathing that worsened with exertion, consistent with a Lung and Kidney deficiency pattern. Alongside her prescribed medical care, she reported deeper, easier breaths after two weeks of Respitrol (Deficient)."
"D.D., a 72-year-old man, experienced occasional shortness of breath with exertion and a frail, quiet cough, consistent with a Lung and Kidney deficiency pattern with underlying qi and blood stagnation. Alongside his prescribed medical care and a combination of complementary formulas, he reported gradual improvement over about three months."
